The SWANS project, promoted by Mountain Community Association of the Trasimeno – Middle Tiber Municipalities, is one of the four projects, of 53 submitted, granted by the European Commission DG Justice in the frame work of the call for proposals “Pilot projects on employment of persons with autism spectrum disorders”, included in the Progress Programme. The scientific coordination is in charge of the AUSL (Local Health Unit) 2 of Perugia, with the support of two experts in evaluation of the ASD person aptitudes and with participation of the supporting staff of the Auriga Consortium, assisted by a psychologist. Companies and public bodies from Umbria are involved as work placement environments, properly evaluated and selected on the basis of the characteristics of the subjects to be placed.
A further valuable scientific support to the project is provided by experts at international level such as Patricia Howlin, of the King’s College London, Theo Peeters and Hilde De Clercq of the Antwerp Autism Training Centre, responsible of the task, amongst others, to provide a training basis for the tutors in charge of the support to the ASD persons during their work placement period. A final conference on the project results and evaluation of the opportunities for work placement of the ASD persons will take place in Perugia the 22nd March 2013, with the participation of international experts, social service operators, families, journalists and public.
